Faith for the Week: Faithful in a Very Little

Faith for the Week: Faithful in a Very Little
Bridging The Gaps Ministry

Faith for the Week is a moment to pause, reflect, and receive encouragement grounded in God’s Word for the days ahead.

Luke 16:10 (ASV)

“He that is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much: and he that is unrighteous in a very little is unrighteous also in much.”

Reflection

Most of us picture faithfulness as something big, like staying through a hard season or believing after years of waiting. Those are real. Jesus starts somewhere smaller. He says the very little is where faithfulness shows up first.

It helps to know what He was talking about. Jesus had just told a story about a manager and his master’s money, and the verses around this one keep coming back to money and what’s been put in your hands. So the very little He means is everyday stuff, like what you do with a paycheck, and how you handle something that belongs to someone else.

In the Greek, the word for faithful comes from the same root as the word for faith. Faithful is faith that shows up. When Jesus talks about being faithful in a very little, He’s talking about faith that shows up in a small decision on an ordinary day, when it would be easy to cut a corner.

The verse runs both ways. “He that is unrighteous in a very little is unrighteous also in much.” That line tells the truth about how people grow. Nobody wakes up one morning trustworthy with a lot. It gets built one small choice at a time.

What’s one small thing in your week that no one would notice if you let it slide?

There’s good news in that. If faithfulness is built in small things, you don’t have to wait for a big moment to grow. The very little is already in front of you. It’s the call you said you’d return, or the thing you told someone you’d do.

There’s grace here too. Some of us read this verse and start counting every small thing we’ve dropped. Jesus is showing you where growth happens, so you can start right where you are today.

Application: Choose one small promise this week and keep it on purpose. Let it be a quiet way of trusting God with what’s in your hands.

Prayer: Jesus, You notice the small things we do and the small things we skip. Thank You that You don’t wait for a big moment to grow faith in us. Help me be faithful with what’s in my hands this week, even the parts no one sees. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Closing: The little things in your week aren’t wasted. He’s building something in you through every one of them.
