Faith for the Week: A Rest That Remains
The Bridge - Faith for the Week is a moment to pause, reflect, and receive encouragement grounded in God’s Word for the days ahead.
Scripture
“There remaineth therefore a sabbath rest for the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest hath himself also rested from his works, as God did from his. Let us therefore give diligence to enter into that rest, that no man fall after the same example of disobedience.”
— Hebrews 4:9-11
Reflection
There remaineth a sabbath rest for the people of God. That word remaineth means it’s still there. The rest has not been used up, and it has not expired. Whatever you have been through, the rest God prepared is still available to you.
Verse 11 takes it further. Let us give diligence to enter into that rest. Diligence is an active word. You choose to enter this rest. It’s a place you decide to live from.
That’s what this whole month has been building toward. The invitation, the stillness, the peace that guards you, and now the choice to stay put in the rest itself. Hebrews wraps it up by saying give diligence to entering in and make this the place you operate from.
He that is entered into his rest hath himself also rested from his works. When you are living from rest, you stop striving to hold everything together on your own. You still work and you still do what is yours to do, but you are not white-knuckling it anymore. That is rest as a way of living, and it is available before you reach the end of your rope.
Application
This week, make a decision about living from rest. When the striving starts back up, when the grip tightens, come back to that decision. The rest remains, and you can re-enter it as many times as you need to.
Prayer
Father, thank you that the rest you prepared did not expire and still remains, right where I am. Help me live from it instead of just visiting when things get hard. Help me give diligence to entering in and staying there. When I drift back into striving, remind me. The rest is still there, and you are still holding it.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Closing
The rest remains. God prepared it for you and it has not run out. You can enter it today, and you can enter it again on any day after this one.
