Faith for the Week: He Will Give You Rest
The Bridge - Faith for the Week is a moment to pause, reflect, and receive encouragement grounded in God’s Word for the days ahead.
Scripture
“Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.”
Matthew 11:28-29
Reflection
Most of us were taught that rest is something you earn. You finish what’s in front of you, and then you get to rest. We end up waiting on a list that never empties, and rest stays just out of reach.
Jesus is talking to people who labor and are heavy laden. People who already know what tired feels like, because they are tired right now. He invites them to come exactly as they are, with no clean-up before they show up.
That’s an invitation a lot of us have been waiting on and didn’t realize is already open.
When Jesus talks about taking on his yoke, he is describing something that goes on you. A yoke connects you to someone walking right beside you who knows how to move with it. The weight is still there, but you are not carrying it alone. He calls himself meek and lowly in heart, patient with where you are.
What he is offering often shows up as something in you finally settling, even when nothing on the outside has moved yet.
Application
If you have been waiting to rest until something is finished or fixed, you do not have to wait. Bring what you are carrying to him right now, exactly as it is.
Let’s Pray
Jesus, I am coming to you with what I have been carrying. Some of it has been on me a long time, and some of it just showed up. All of it is heavy. You told me to come, and I am coming, even with all this still in my hands. Teach me what it feels like to find rest in you while I am still in the middle of things. I trust you to hold what I cannot.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Closing
You do not have to arrive somewhere before he will meet you. He already knows where you are, and the invitation stays open as long as you need it to.
