Faith for the Week: Praise That Rises on Its Own
The Bridge — Faith for the Week is a moment to pause, reflect, and receive encouragement grounded in God's Word for the days ahead.
A Psalm of thanksgiving.
Make a joyful noise unto Jehovah, all ye lands.
Serve Jehovah with gladness:
Come before his presence with singing.
Know ye that Jehovah, he is God:
It is he that hath made us, and we are his;
We are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter into his gates with thanksgiving,
And into his courts with praise:
Give thanks unto him, and bless his name.
For Jehovah is good; his lovingkindness endureth for ever,
And his faithfulness unto all generations.
— Psalm 100, ASV
Reflection
What I love about this Psalm is that it does not start with an explanation. It does not say here is why you should praise God and then build a case. It just says do it. Make a joyful noise. Come before Him with singing. It is an invitation that assumes you already have a reason — and the reason is Him.
"It is he that hath made us, and we are his." That is not a passing statement. That is the whole foundation. He made you. You belong to Him. Not because you earned it or figured out the right way to get to Him, but because He decided you were His. That language is personal. It is tender.
Praise here flows out of knowing — knowing who He is and knowing who we are because of Him. When you know that the God who made you is good, that His lovingkindness does not run out, that His faithfulness stretches across every generation — praise is not something you have to manufacture. It is a response. It is the natural overflow of being loved by someone that good.
Application
This week, try beginning your time with God without a request. Just start with who He is. Let praise come before petition. See what happens when you show up just to be with Him.
Let’s Pray
Father, thank You for being good — good at Your core, good in who You are. Thank You that Your lovingkindness is not something I have to wonder about or wait for. It is already here. Help me to sit in that today and let praise rise from a place of knowing who You are.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
Closing
You are His. That was true before you opened this, and it will be true long after you close it.
