Faith for the Week: A Great God Who Is Also Close

Faith for the Week: A Great God Who Is Also Close
Bridging The Gaps Ministry

The Bridge — Faith for the Week is a moment to pause, reflect, and receive encouragement grounded in God's Word for the days ahead.

Oh come, let us sing unto Jehovah;

Let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.

Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving;

Let us make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.

For Jehovah is a great God,

And a great King above all gods.

In his hand are the deep places of the earth;

The heights of the mountains are his also.

The sea is his, and he made it;

And his hands formed the dry land.

Oh come, let us worship and bow down;

Let us kneel before Jehovah our Maker:

For he is our God,

And we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.

— Psalm 95:1-7, ASV

Reflection

Notice the way this Psalm moves. It starts with singing and joyful noise — celebration, thanksgiving. And then it shifts. "Oh come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before Jehovah our Maker." The Psalmist went from standing and singing to kneeling. Something changed in him as he got closer. Not fear. Not obligation. Awe.

The deep places of the earth are in His hand. The mountains belong to Him. The sea is His because He made it. We are talking about a God who holds the deepest parts of the earth and the highest peaks at the same time. And yet this great God is also the one the Psalmist calls "our God." Not a distant God. Ours. And we are His people, the sheep of His hand. He is close enough to tend to us. Close enough to know what we need before we even think to ask.

The God who shaped the ocean floor is the same God who knows your name.

Application

This week, think about how big God is — and notice how that draws you closer rather than pushing you away. Let the size of who He is be a reason to trust Him with the small things.

Prayer

Father, You hold the deep places of the earth and the heights of the mountains, and still You call me Yours. Thank You for being a great God who is also a close God. Worship is not something I have to perform for You — it is what happens when I remember who You are. Draw me closer today. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Closing

He made the mountains. He made the sea. And then He made space for you — right there, close to Him, in the pasture of His hand.
